Second opinions before making important medical decisions:

E.g. in case of an upcoming knee surgery

Dr. med. Matthias Schmied supports you in deciding for or against a surgical intervention or a non-surgical therapy on the knee. Upon request, Dr. Schmied will review the diagnosis made or therapy prescribed.

The second opinion offers you a decision-making aid for a treatment that is optimally tailored to your needs. The aim of the second opinion is to have certainty and confidence in a recommended therapy.

How patients decide after diagnosis and discussion of the second opinion is up to each patient. The recommendation is as neutral as possible, because patients decide for themselves which knee specialist should accompany the therapy.

Dr. med. Matthias Schmied (Specialist FMH for Orthopaedic Surgery)

My orthopedic specialties:

Sports, knee and hip (conservative and surgical therapies)

  • Sports injuries (sports traumatology, trauma surgery) to the knee and hip

  • Fracture treatment of the lower extremities

  • Conservative treatments of knee and hip joint diseases

  • Knee arthroscopy: joint-preserving arthroscopic procedures on the knee joint

  • Hip arthroscopy: joint-preserving arthroscopic procedures on the hip joint

  • Primary and revision prosthetics of the knee and hip

Appointment offer for the discussion of your concerns:

  • Depending on the complexity (accident, pain or illness) and your request, an initial consultation takes 30 to 40 minutes.

  • Dr. med. Matthias Schmied treats outpatients and inpatients from all insurance classes (KVG, UVG, VVG).

  • The costs for ACP autologous blood therapy for osteoarthritis and sports injuries are generally not covered by health insurance and are therefore charged directly to the patient.

Outpatient treatment and reimbursement

The costs of outpatient examinations and treatments are covered by the compulsory health insurance for all persons insured in Switzerland.

The deductible specified in the insurance contract and the compulsory excess (10%) are not covered. In the case of restricted insurance models (e.g. "family doctor model"), a referral by the family doctor is necessary.

For international patients (resident abroad), the assumption of costs for outpatient and inpatient treatment must be clarified in advance with the respective health insurance company.

At Orth4Life, the focus is on the patient.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Cornelia Cardillo.

From the first contact, during the therapy and until the final recovery, we are there for you.

Inpatient treatments and stays

The assumption of costs for inpatient treatment and hospital stays depends on the insurance model. If patients have supplementary insurance (semi-private or private), the inpatient costs will be covered by the health insurance (less deductible rate) after approval of the costs.
