Osteoarthritis of the hip joint
Coxarthrosis (coxa=hip) describes a condition of wear and tear of the hip joint. The consequences are mild to disabling pain and restricted movement. The quality of life can be considerably restricted.
In a conversation with Dr. med. Matthias Schmied you will learn which treatment options are possible.
Normally, osteoarthritis develops only in old age. However, many other factors can have an influence. Accidents involving the hip, activity level, weight, genetic load (osteoarthritis in relatives), other diseases, congenital changes in the shape of the hip and much more affect the speed of development and the time of onset of the disease.
The therapy approaches include conservative (without surgery), as well as surgical measures. Which treatment is appropriate is primarily decided by the patient in consultation with the attending physician.
While the symptoms of mild arthrosis can often be alleviated with non-surgical measures, the treatment of advanced wear and tear usually requires the implantation of a hip prosthesis. It should be noted that artificial hip joints currently have excellent results and a long service life.
The latest generation of implants and the most up-to-date, minimally invasive surgical techniques are standard for us. All surgeons at Ortho4Life have extensive experience in the treatment of hip osteoarthritis.
