Patella (kneecap)

The kneecap is an important component of the knee joint and functions as a deflection point of the knee extensor apparatus. In addition to acute accident-related problems, there are also chronic unstable conditions of the kneecap.

In a conversation with Dr. med. Matthias Schmied you will learn which treatment options are possible.

This causes patella luxation (dislocation of the kneecap) even during normal movements. These dislocations can also lead to cartilage damage in young people, which is often a very serious problem for the future. It is therefore advisable to consult a specialist in such cases.

Dr. med. Matthias Schmied has many years of experience in the treatment of these problems and offers, in addition to a careful clarification, therapy methods adapted to the problem.

While first-time dislocations can usually be treated non-operatively, repeated dislocations often require surgery. In this case, consideration must be given to the anatomy of the knee joint.

3D reconstructions of the knee joint using computer tomography (CT) help us decide which surgical procedure is optimal.
