Dr. med. Matthias Schmied
Since October 2020, Dr. med. Matthias Schmied, has been working in his practice Ortho4Life in the private clinic Belair. He is a specialist in orthopaedic surgery and traumatology of the musculoskeletal system and specialises in hip and knee surgery and sports traumatology.
The knee is one of the most complex joints. It requires very delicate work - a watchmaker's hand - to treat it. Dr. Matthias Schmied about how to ffciently treat a knee joint by non-surgical means and how new Swiss technologies help to improve the results of knee prosthesis.
Since the 2018/2019 season, Matthias Schmied is the proud club doctor and sponsor at FC Volketswil. "Dear FC Volketswil, I keep my fingers crossed for you and wish all players an injury-free season. Football is a passion that also creates suffering. Stay healthy and score many goals. Hopp FC Volketswil !!"
Although the current satisfaction rate of 90% is very high, research is constantly striving to improve the quality through revolutionary technology and new experience. Especially advanced, minimally invasive surgical methods in the areas of shoulder, hip and knee joint have many advantages for the patients.
When is the knee ready for prosthesis? The symptoms of degenerative joint diseases are very variable. Advanced arthrosis on X-ray in almost asymptomatic patients is not uncommon. This contrasts with invalidating pain that takes the patient out of everyday life and confines him or her to bed.
Individual surgical planning combined with the latest surgical techniques ensures improved stability of the knee prosthesis - and makes sports possible even at an advanced age.
In Switzerland, the number of wear and tear diseases (osteoarthritis) in the knee and hip is constantly increasing. For these reasons, we strive to keep our surgical techniques and implants up to date.
Dr. med Matthias Schmied, specialist in traumatology and orthopaedic surgery, has his practice with immediate effect in the Sport Permanence and Arthrosis Clinic Zurich in the Privatklinik Bethanien in Zurich. Most recently, Dr. med Matthias Schmied was head of orthopaedics at the Zug Cantonal Hospital in Baar.
Live knee prosthesis surgery: In September 2014, numerous Swiss doctors attended a symposium at the Zug Cantonal Hospital and watched a live knee operation with Dr. Matthias Schmied .
For the rehabilitation of knee joints (illnesses, sports injuries or post-operative therapies), Dr. Matthias Schmied counts on the expertise and services of his long-standing partner Pietro La Macchia from genu-system.ch in Weiningen near Zurich.
