Revision hip prosthesis
For painful hip replacement.
In medicine, revision refers to the repetition or extension of a previously performed operation (revision and exchange operations).
The most common reason for revision:
Insufficient success of the previous surgery or occurred complications with the hip prosthesis.
Revision surgery on the hip (hip arthroplasty) is necessary as a follow-up procedure if parts of the prosthesis become loose, the sliding plastic wears out or the hip prosthesis becomes infected.
In the case of loosening, a distinction is made between aseptic loosening (without an infectious cause) and septic loosening, which is caused by a bacterial infection.
The revision is intended to achieve the originally intended treatment success or at least an improvement of the current condition.
